The hunter, in pursuit of an elephant, does not stop throwing stones at birds

The hunter, in pursuit of an elephant, does not stop throwing stones at birds.

“The hunter, in pursuit of an elephant, does not stop throwing stones at birds.”

African proverb and quote.

“The hunter, in pursuit of an elephant, does not stop throwing stones at birds.” The proverb communicates a strong sense of focus and priority. A hunter who specializes in locating elephants remains resolute. His whole focus is on catching the elephant. He overlooks little distractions or temptations that arise along the route. Throwing stones at lesser birds would just divert his attention.

This message reminds us to have clear goals in life. Once committed, we must filter out little distractions. Chasing every possibility drains our limited energy. Success requires that we disregard temporary distractions. Only by remaining on track can we fulfill our high targets.

The basic concept applies, whether you’re hunting elephants or searching for dreams. Big problems need major sacrifices and dedication. Detours and sideline activities obstruct real progress. With determination and tunnel vision, no task is too difficult. However, fragmented focus produces fewer great results. Disregard the birds in order to catch the elephant.
